How to take care of your candle
- The first burn is the most important. Trim the wick to 1/4" and place in a draft-free area. The candle must have enough burn time to create a melt pool that extends to the edge of the jar. This creates a "memory" and prevents the candle from tunneling during subsequent burns.
- Trim the wick to 1/4" after each burn. Before relighting, use a wick trimmer to remove any mushroom that may be left from a previous burn.
- Try to avoid allowing a candle to burn for more than four hours. The oils may become compromised and create smoke.
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Blowing the candle out will create smoke, or "afterglow".
- Do not burn your candle all the way down. Leave about a half inch of wax at the bottom to prevent overheating and compromising the vessel.
- If reusing the jar or cement, place in the freezer. The wax will shrink and make it easier to remove.
